Rider and Sailing Vessel (colored lithograph) by Oskar Kokoschka, 1906-1908

This is postcard 55 of the Wiener Werkstätte by Oskar Kokoschka. The initials of the the artist are on the saddle cloth. The rider waves to the ship. The scene may suggest that on horseback one feels like riding on the wind, just as the sailing vessel really does.  The picture radiates a holiday atmosphere in an era when such a feeling was much less common than in our time.
