De Huntsman door Joseph Crawhall
gouache, 33,5 x 34,9 cm, ca. 1905, Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum, inv. nr. 1701
The huntsman blows his hunting horn. The horse is relaxed after a run, the hounds gather around the huntsman and they probably wait for the last hounds to arrive. The striking aspect of this autumn scene from the beginning of the 20th century is the fact that 100 years later, it would be exactly the same. Moreover the artistic style of this work could fit in the 21st century as well. One difference, however, is that in our time the tail of the horse would not be docked.
