The Netherlands Institute for Art History<\/strong> (RKD) in The Hague, The Netherlands,\u00a0has incorporated the database The Horse in Art<\/strong> of Boudewijn Commandeur, who during\u00a0a lifetime\u00a0has collected images of the horse (and\u00a0donkeys, zebras) in art, described them, and finally digitalized them. The database includes\u00a0images from Lieke Manders, who provided valuable additions thanks to her\u00a0active search. This\u00a0database is now part of RKD<\/strong>images<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>and can be visited without charge or registration.\u00a0For\u00a0direct\u00a0access\u00a0to the database The Horse in Art please click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The artistic expression of the horse in all its appearances and its historical significance are set out in this database. The images originate from collections all over the world and also from little known sources. They concern all forms of plastic art, from\u00a0about the year 500 until the present. The collection has been made\u00a0searchable through subject keywords about function, type,\u00a0gait and many other categories, next to the standard search possibilities. Each image has been provided with comment. More than 2300 images have been processed in this way\u00a0and they are an addition to\u00a0the material already in RKD<\/strong>images<\/strong>.<\/em> This is an example from the database<\/p>\n
