Half-pass by a member of the Cadre Noir, Saumur

This rider shows a perfect performance of the half-pass excercise, in French l’appuyement. The horse trots forward and sideways on a diagonal line, crossing the legs. This drawing was made by the colonel Margot, who was the ecuyer-en-chef of the cavalry school in Saumur 1946-1959. Margot had a very fortunate combination of talents. He started to make sketches of horses in Saumur in 1932. In 1994 an exhibit of 200 of his watercolors and drawings was organized in Saumur. Next to horses in dressage excercises his work includes harness horses.
