Jesus Christ rides a white horse in extended amble. His right hand holds a staff, his left hand seems to have held the reins, in a high position (as in western style). No stirrups, conform the situation of the time of Christ. The hooves are shod. A white horse usually stands for majesty. Most likely this scene represents the final victory of Christ. Probably an illustration of Apocalyps 19.11, the entry in Jerusalem is another possibility. Unique picture of Christ on horseback in stead of a donkey. See Robineau et Boissy, p.34, 1999. Around Christ four angels ride also white horses and form a quadrille. These horses also show the amble but are less elegant. The angels have extended wings and spread their arms, as an impressive escort of Christ.
